How to Import Users

Overview

Importing lets you add many users at once from an Excel file instead of creating them one by one, which is ideal for onboarding a whole team. You upload the file, map its columns to the matching FieldPie fields, review a summary, and import. FieldPie provides a sample Excel file so you can format your data correctly before you upload, and it lets you define the delimiter that separates multiple values—such as several roles, skills, or teams—inside a single cell. Large files may take a little time to process, and the users appear once the import finishes.

Before You Start

You need access to the Users area and permission to import data. Prepare your Excel file first and use the sample as a template so your columns line up with FieldPie’s fields. If any field holds more than one value—for example multiple roles—decide which delimiter separates them so the import reads each value correctly.

How to Import Users

  1. In the left navigation menu of FieldPie, select Users
  1. Click the import icon in the top-right corner.
  1. Click Upload and select the file you want to import.
  1. If you keep the ID column in the file, the system will update the existing records with the new information. If you remove the ID column, all records will be imported as new data.
  1. If needed, download the sample Excel file from the description to see how users should be formatted before uploading.
  1. Click Next to continue.
  1. Map each Excel column to the matching FieldPie field.
  1. Click the pencil icon to define the delimiter used for multiple values in the Role, Skill, or Team fields.
  1. Click Next to move to the final step.
  1. Review the summary, then click Import to add the users.
  1. If your file is large, allow some time for the import to finish.
  1. If the system detects matching ID fields, it will notify you that the existing records will be updated. Otherwise, the data will be imported as new records.

Tips and Things to Know

  • Start from the sample file—matching its columns makes the mapping step quick and error-free.
  • For cells with several values (roles, skills, teams), set the delimiter with the pencil icon so each value is read separately.
  • Review the summary before you confirm; it is your last check before the users are created.
  • Large imports run in the background and may take a while—let them finish rather than retrying.

Use the pencil icon on the mapping step to set the delimiter that separates multiple values in the Role, Skill, or Team fields.

For large files, yes. Let the process finish; the users are added once it completes.

Import is primarily for adding users. To update many existing users, the Excel bulk-edit workflow (export, edit, re-import) is usually the better fit.
