Overview
Skills describe what a user is capable of doing, and FieldPie uses them to make sure the right work reaches the right people. From a user’s edit screen you can create a brand-new skill or pick from skills that already exist, then apply it to the user. Once skills are on a user, features like visit planning and route optimization can match jobs to people who are qualified for them. Building out your skill list as you go means you rarely have to stop and set up skills separately.
Before you start
You need access to the Users area and permission to edit users. You can create a skill on the spot while editing a user, or select from skills that already exist. If you plan to manage the full skill list—including merging duplicates—do that under User Skills in Settings.
How to assign skills to a user
- In the left navigation menu of FieldPie, select Users.
- Find the user and click the pencil (edit) icon to open the user edit screen.

- Click the pencil icon next to Skills to modify the user’s skills.
- Click the + icon to open the skill options menu.
- Enter the information for the new skill.

- Save the new skill.
- Choose a skill from the list to assign it to the user.
- Click Save to apply all of the changes you made to the user.
Tips and things to know
- You can create a skill without leaving the user screen—use the + icon, name it, and it becomes available to assign.
- Assign every skill that applies; a user can hold as many skills as their role requires.
- Consistent skill names make planning far easier, so agree on naming before you create a lot of them.
- If duplicate skills creep in, use the Merge Skills option in Settings to tidy them up.
- You can assign the skills to the visit types too. By assigning Skills to Visit Types, you can ensure that only users with the required skills can perform and be assigned to the relevant tasks.
