Overview
Advanced User Tracking controls how FieldPie collects location data from your users’ devices. From Settings you can turn tracking on or off and, when it is on, set how often locations are retrieved and how far a user must move before a new location is recorded. Tuning these values lets you balance accuracy against battery use and data volume: frequent, fine-grained updates give a detailed picture but cost more resources, while looser settings are lighter but less precise. These settings directly shape what you see when you track users on the map.
Before You Start
You need administrator access to Settings. Decide on the balance you want between location accuracy and device battery and data usage, and have target values in mind for how often to retrieve locations (in minutes) and the movement threshold (in feet) before you edit.
How to Configure Advanced User Tracking
- Click your profile in the top-right corner, then click Settings.
- Scroll down to the Advanced User Tracking section.

- Use the toggle to enable or disable tracking.
- Click the pencil icon to make changes.
- Enter the Location Retrieval Frequency in minutes and the Location Retrieval Difference in feet.

- Click OK to apply the changes.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click Save to store the settings.
Tips and Things to Know
- Shorter retrieval intervals give more detail but use more battery and data—tune to your needs.
- The retrieval difference sets how far a user must move before a new point is recorded, which filters out tiny movements.
- Remember the final Save at the bottom of Settings; the pencil’s OK alone does not persist the change.
- These values determine how live the positions look on the user tracking map.
Frequently Asked Questions
Location Retrieval Frequency sets how often (in minutes) a location is collected, and Location Retrieval Difference sets how far (in feet) a user must move before a new location is recorded.
More frequent retrieval makes the map more current, while looser settings update it less often. The settings here are what drive the map’s freshness.
Yes. Use the toggle in this section to disable tracking; re-enable it the same way when you need it.
After clicking OK in the pencil dialog, you must also click Save at the bottom of the Settings page to store the change.
